Pukuafu Deemed to Have No Rights on Arbitration Document

JAKARTA - PT Pukuafu Indah management was deemed to have no rights to coerce for arbitration decision resume to PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT) or even any representing directors. The gist is, because Pukuafu is not the party in dispute.

"In the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) arbitration ruling of April 2009, the disputing parties were the foreign shareholders of PT NNT and the Indonesian government,” PT NNT president director Martiono Hardianto said in Jakarta last week.

Government Urged To Issue Special IUPs

JAKARTA Coal businesses are calling for the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry to issue special mining transportation and sales operations permits to more than 100 traders that have submitted applications since November 2010.

The permits are provided for under articles 36 and 37 of Government Regulation No.23/2010, an implemental regulation deriving from Law No. 4/2009 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining.

Pukuafu Claims It Never Broke Promise

JAKARTA - PT Pukuafu’s management claims it was never in breach of any agreement with two Newmont Mining Corp business units, Newmont Indonesia Ltd (NIL) and NVL (AS) Ltd, over a US$287 loan.

Tri Asnawanto, Pukuafu Indah’s vice president of Legal and External Affairs, said the agreement in fact ended on June 26, 2010.

"Moreover, the money was not a loan. Newmont had sought the consent of Pukuafu Indah’s president director to acquire bonds issued by Merukh Global Mineral BV," he said, in a press release sent to Investor Daily on Tuesday (1/2).

Papua Needs Many Mining Professionals

JAYAPURA (Bisnis papua) - Papua Province is vast, and holds an abundance of natural wealth, and therefore needs many mining professionals or geologists to manage it.

Cenderawasih University Head of Minerals Engineering Enos Karapa, MT in Jayapura on Friday (28/1) said the natural wealth potential in Papua was beginning to reveal itself as geological processes unfold with time.

"In the Nabire region, for instance, gold deposits are coming to light. To manage them, geologists and mining professionals are needed,” he said.
