Perpres On Underground Mining To Boost Investment

JAKARTA – The presidential regulation (perpres) on underground mining is expected to boost investment in the mining sector. With the perpres in force, underground mining production that had been deferred can resume operations.

Prio Pribadi Soemarno, Indonesian Mining Association (IMA/API) executive director said a number of underground mines had deferred operations pending finalization of the underground mining presidential regulation.

NTB Govt Wants To Acquire More Shares In Newmont

The government of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has reaffirmed its interest in acquiring the final seven percent stake to be divested by PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PT NNT) in a bid to ramp up regional revenues from the mining sector.

The governor had sent a letter to the central government asking for permission to buy the shares, but no response had been issued so far, provincial legislative council chairman Lalu Sujirman said Tuesday.

Pemprov NTB Inginkan Saham Divestasi Newmont

JAKARTA - Pemerintah Provinsi (Pemprov) Nusa Tenggara Barat berharap pemerintah mau menyerahkan saham divestasi PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT) periode 2010 sebesar 7% yang dihargai US$ 271,6 juta ke pemerintah daerah. Mereka beralasan, berdasarkan Kontrak Karya (KK) pemda juga mempunyai hak untuk memiliki saham tersebut.

Ketua DPRD NTB Lalu Sujirman menuturkan, NTB sudah mendapat 24% saham dari proses divestasi yang sudah berjalan. "Di tahap akhir ini kami sangat mengharap pemerintah pusat bisa memberikan saham 7% yang terakhir ini kepada pemda," kata dia dalam jumpa pers, di Jakarta, Selasa (28/12).

Indonesia Eyes New 7% Stake in Newmont

The government is planning to spend $271.5 million on a further stake in Newmont Nusa Tenggara, the local unit of US mining giant Newmont, Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo says.

“The government is considering taking a 7 percent stake in Newmont,” Agus said on Friday, adding that the state was reviewing details on how to buy the shares, which had to be offered to the government this year under the terms of a 24-year-old agreement. He said the purchase would be made through the government investment center (PIP) or another state-owned company.
